Liposuction

Liposuction is effective at reducing the undesirable bulges that are hard to diminish with diet and workout alone. The procedure’s primary function is to bring back more appealing contours and proportions through the elimination of excess fatty deposits. Many people discover that, in spite of their efforts, specific locations of the body stay resistant to renovation due to inherited traits, aging, and / or bodily hormones which predispose the body to shop fat in the hips, buttocks, and thighs for ladies, and the abdomen and waist for men.

 Liposuction

Liposuction can be made use of to target and enhance practically any location of the body that has persistent fat holding areas including the abdomen, arms, buttocks, legs, knees, and ankles. A few of the most usual trouble zones which Dr. Rosenblum recontours with liposuction include:.

Saddlebags– The excess fat that accumulates on the outer hips and thighs.

Love Handles and Muffin Tops– The flab around the waist and stomach area.

Back Fat– Excess fat in this area develops unattractive bulges under clothes.

Neck and Chin– The removal of fatty deposits in this area can develop more chiseled definition between the neck and face, and it can lower the look of a double chin.

Liposuction is typically combined with other treatments to boost the body’s look such as breast enhancement surgical treatment, a tummy tuck, and / or various other body contouring procedures to bring back a company, proportional contour to sagging thighs, buttocks and arms. Influenced by the flattering appearance of their make over and a higher sense of confidence, many of Dr. Rosenblum’s liposuction clients say that liposuction has been a positive experience enhancing the way they look and feel.

In the liposuction procedure, a sterile solution containing anesthetic to reduce pain, and epinephrine to minimize bleeding and bruising is injected into the areas of localized fatty deposits. Through small incisions, a thin hollow tube called a cannula is used to suction out the unwanted fat. To minimize scarring, these incisions are typically no more than one-quarter of an inch in length, and they are placed in inconspicuous areas such as natural skin folds and creases.

While some patients undergo large-volume liposuction to remove 10 to 25 pounds of excess fat, most patients have moderate liposuction to remove smaller amounts of fat from specific areas to achieve their contour goals. The length of liposuction surgery can range anywhere from 1 hours to 5 hours depending on the volume of fat that is is to be removed and the number of areas to be liposuctioned. Once the procedure is complete, dressings are applied, and you will be fitted with a compression garment to reduce swelling and help your body conform to its new contours.

With advances in technology, a multitude of liposuction methods are now available to the plastic surgeon, including Vaser liposuction, Ultrasonic liposuction, SmartLipo, and power-assisted liposuction. However, the most important factor to consider in selecting a liposuction provider is not the method of liposuction that is used, but rather the skill and expertise of the surgeon in achieving favorable contouring results. Two of the most widely preferred methods of liposuction by plastic surgeons are the tumescent technique and ultrasonic methods of liposuction.

Dr. Rosenblum primarily utilizes the tumescent method of liposuction, in which a fluid containing anesthetic and epinephrine is injected into the subcutaneous fat. This solution causes the fat cells to swell so they can be suctioned away as Dr. Rosenblum sculpts new contours. The tumescent technique eliminates any pain and significantly decreases bleeding. Because the epinephrine in the tumescent fluid reduces blood flow to the area which is being liposuctioned, bleeding and bruising are reduced. In addition to this advantage, patients experience a more comfortable recovery in the 18-24 hours following their procedure because of the pain-relieving anesthetic contained in the tumesced solution. Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction, or UAL, is a method that employs the heat generated by ultrasonic energy to liquefy unwanted fat so that it can be suctioned out through a narrow cannula tube. Because this method increases the ease of fat removal so that surrounding tissues are less impacted, bruising and bleeding are minimized. However, the use of heat carries the added risk of burning and blistering the skin. As well, there can be formation of fluid, seromas, which occur and can diminish your result.

Following your surgery, you will be able to go home to rest.  You will experience bruising and swelling after a liposuction procedure. Ice packs are helpful to reduce swelling and discomfort. Much of the bruising and swelling will diminish within 2-3 weeks.  Dr. Rosenblum may use a compression garment or girdle to prevent excess fluid or swelling from accumulating under the skin. The garment is worn for 2-6 weeks and any stitches are removed in about one to two weeks.

During the recovery process, it is important to take short walks. More strenuous activities and aerobic exercise may be resumed in 2-4 weeks or when Dr. Rosenblum advises. Patients typically are able to return to work approximately one week after a liposuction procedure. The results of liposuction are usually long-lasting provided that a stable weight is maintained.
