We have an overwhelming satisfaction rate of over 95% with our patients.
This is one of the few procedures we do that can’t be accomplished through diet and exercise or going to the gym. If you have gained weight or had a baby, a tummy tuck is the best procedure to recreate your body the way it was before.
A cost of a tummy tuck is sometimes high and is rarely covered by insurance. However, there are certain situations where a patient has lost a significant amount of weight or have had weight loss surgery (such as gastric bypass or laparoscopic banding) where insurance will cover a tummy tuck. We are happy to try and have insurance cover that for you, but we will have to see you first in a consultation and determine what will be best for you and what is most appropriate.
Most of our procedures are out-patients procedures. We have found over the years that going home the same day gets patients back into their own comfort zone.
Being in their home allows patients to actually do much better and heal much better. We like you to be home moving around because it prevents some of the complications that can be seen with tummy tucks.
When we do a tummy tuck in our office we always do a small amount of liposuction on the lateral flanks and the hip rolls to give women the best possible figure and best possible hourglass shape that we can obtain. For men, we don’t do as much liposuction because we want them to have a more masculine torso.
Liposuction on other areas can be done at the same time as a tummy tuck, it just depends on how much fat we are going to remove and how much time it is going to take. Often times, we do liposuction on the hips, the flanks, outer thighs, inner thighs, and knees at the same time as a tummy tuck.
It’s most important that we consider your safety first and that’s how we base most of our decisions on what you should and should not have done.
A garment, a medical term for a girdle, helps after surgery to keep down swelling and keep the skin shrunken down. After we remove fat with either a tummy tuck or liposuction, a garment, a compression garment, or a girdle helps keeps the skin retracted or stuck down to the muscle. This helps avoid any contour irregularities, divots, or imperfections in the skin so you get the best possible result.
We will have a custom garment designed for you that is specifically created for the areas we will be addressing during your surgery.
This is a question we will be able to answer during your consultation.
In general, liposuction is a procedure designed to remove fat while a tummy tuck is a procedure designed to remove, fat, skin, and tighten your muscles.
In our practice we do revisions free for the first year.
Any of our patients that have a problem we fix. Many times we go back years later to do small little touch ups or revisions.
After 2 weeks moms can resume back to lifting any small objects, some large objects, and almost any child.
The recovery in general is 7-10 days:
- By 14 days, most of our patients are driving and doing their normal routine.
- By 4 weeks, most of our patients are back in the gym.
- By 6-8 weeks, you feel 100% and look great.
We do all of our cosmetic surgeries at our own, fully accredited ambulatory center which is located in our office at the corner of Shore Drive and Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach.
Our facility has been there for over 5 years and has been fully accredited by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Accreditation Committee for Ambulatory Surgery Centers. We get accredited every year and have never had any problems or bad incidents.
If you’re considering having a child, It’s best to wait on a tummy tuck. During the tummy tuck we are not only going to remove you excess skin, but also tighten your tummy muscles. If you’re planning on having another pregnancy, it’s going to stretch out those muscles again and this would not be in your best interest to do the procedure until after you know that you are done having children.
The cost of a tummy tuck is not insignificant. The cost ranges from approximately from $6,500 to $8,500 depending on what other procedures are being done at the same time.
For instance, if we are doing a light of liposuction on the hips, legs, and upper abdomen, it may require more time in our operating room which would require more cost.
In general the cost of a tummy tuck is approximately $7,000. This includes the cost of the operating room, the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, and any of your post-operative visits or garments that would be needed after surgery.
The incisions for a tummy tuck vary. We work with you to keep scars hidden in most bathing suits and low-rise jeans. That’s why we often have patients bring in a bathing suit or their favorite pair of jeans to make sure we have the incision as low as possible that will be covered by their clothing.
After a tummy tuck is performed, there is at least one drainage tube and sometimes two depending on how big the tummy tuck is. The drains remove the excess fluid under the skin so you get less swelling and have a better result, quicker.
Whether we use one drain or two, they are usually out between 5-7 days, they do not hurt when they come out, do not require any special care at home, and our nurses show you or your significant other how to use the drains.
